Yes, Virginia, there actually was a Monsieur Jean Bourget who was close to retirement when Optimel began importing into Australia his range of exquisite children’s wear over 3 decades ago. His family began producing workmen’s overalls over 30 years before that, rather like Australia’s iconic Yakka brand and, upon moving into children’s wear, called the brand Jean le Bourget before settling for his own name without embellishment. Year in year out, for most of those 60 years, Jean Bourget has produced 300 new styles every season for boys and girls from 1 month to junior adults of 16 years. The range still reinvents itself by adapting adults’ wear developments to its new collections, always exciting to the imagination.
